MN Hockey has changed it's format for processing background checks to an online process. If you have filled out a written form, it has been shredded and you WILL NEED TO complete the online form. All coaches must complete the online background check before they can be on the ice with their teams! NO EXCEPTIONS! Please email Sue Belden once you've completed the background check so you can be added to the list of cleared coaches. Thanks, Sue

NOTICE TO ALL COACHING CANDIDATES/HEAD COACHES/ASSISTANT COACHES:
PLEASE NOTE THE USA HOCKEY COACHING CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR 2011
USA Hockey has issued new rules beginning this year for all Coaches.
Here is how it now reads:
If you are presently a Level 1 or Level 2 Certified Coach, you MUST complete the next Level Coaching Certification this year – AND – you must complete the On-Line Training Module specific to the Level of Play you are Coaching.
Therefore:
If you have a Level 1 Certification, you must take the Level 2 Coaching Clinic – and you must take the On-Line Training Module for the Level of Play (Mites, Squirts, U10, Peewees, U12, U14 or Bantams) you are Coaching if not taken previously
Likewise, if you have a Level 2 Certification, you must take the Level 3 Coaching Clinic – and you must take the On-Line Training Module for the Level of Play (Mites, Squirts, U10, Peewees, U12, U14 or Bantams) you are Coaching if not take previously
If you are a Level 3 Certification, and you have been a Level 3 for 9 years, they are requiring you to attend a Level 4 Clinic – however, a Level 4 Clinic will not be offered this year so I believe they are working on alternative steps. However, you must still take the On-Line Training Module for the Level of Play (Mites, Squirts, U10, Peewees, U12, U14 or Bantams) you are Coaching if you have not take previously.
If you are a Level 3 Certification, and have not been a Level 3 for 9 years, you must take the On-Line Training Module for the Level of Play (Mites, Squirts, U10, Peewees, U12, U14, or Bantams) you are Coaching if not taken previously. Also, Level 3 Certification is valid for 2 years, so if your Certification is due to expire, you must take the On-Line Level 3 Recertification Track 1 or 2 (wherever you may stand on Level 3 Certification).
This must be completed before January 1st in order to be properly Certified and Valid as a Coach. This is for Head Coach or Assistant Coaches – so please be sure all Assistants know about this as well.
Please Note: I have posted below the Coaching Certification Requirements to help better serve you. These are located on the USA Hockey Webpage.
Please also Note: Clinics are just starting to be posted and will fill up very quickly. This is filled on a first to respond basis. If you put off enrolling into a Clinic you need to have, this could prove very troublesome to accomplish and you may be left without being able to Coach if you don’t act fairly quickly. These can be found on the USA Hockey Web Page (www.usahockey.com). Also, keep in mind that for the next several weeks, many more clinics will be added to the site as they are secured. I have posted below the current Clinics that are posted. Please keep checking back on the site. We are also trying to get a Clinic hosted at Rogers as well – but again, this is on a first response basis meaning that anyone from anywhere is able to attend and if we host this clinic and you are not quick enough to enroll, you will not be able to attend.
I ask that you all visit the USA Hockey Webpage (www.usahockey.com), go to the Coaches Tab, then Coaching Certification Tab and carefully read the Sections on Rules and Requirements, and Age-Specific Modules. In addition, please go to the Coaching Clinic Tab and go under the Locate and Register for Coaching Clinic Tab, then under the District Tab select Minnesota to find the Coaching Clinics being offered in Minnesota. These are just now coming out – and there will be more that will be added all the time – but they will fill up very quickly!
Thanks for taking care of this – and please let me know once you have updated your Certification.

USA Hockey requires that helmets be worn by coaches when they are on ice with a youth team or any registered players. Minnesota hockey requires the helmet chin straps to be buckled. The penalty for non compliance is suspension from all activities for up to 30days.
If your CEP card has or will expire this year,
you need to get it renewed if you are going to coach this season!
