RYHA S.K.A.T.E. Mission Statement

 

The purpose of the RYHA Skaters Keep Achieving Through Education (S.K.A.T.E.) program, is to encourage, support, and reward youth hockey players who commit themselves to their schoolwork while enjoying the sport of hockey.

 

RYHA S.K.A.T.E. Goals

 

1. It is the goal of the RYHA S.K.A.T.E. program to significantly increase awareness among youth hockey players that performance in the classroom is more important in life than performance on the ice. 

 

2.  It is the goal of the RYHA S.K.A.T.E. program to generate a measurable impact on higher achievement in the classroom.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

 

  • What is S.K.A.T.E.? It is an academic achievement program which is designed to encourage student athletes to maintain good grades while participating in youth hockey and to reward their academic performance.

 

  • Who is eligible to participate in this program?  All youth hockey players, Squirt (U-10) through Junior Gold (U-16), can participate in this program.

 

  • What is the criterion for qualification? A grade point average of 3.0 during the academic period which coincides with the youth hockey season is the criterion for qualification.

 

  • How can parents help?  Parents can help by teaching their player(s) that hockey is not a destination in life, but a vehicle to learn how to better live life.  Parents can help by reminding their players about the importance of school and how S.K.A.T.E. will recognize and reward their successful performance.
